Peeled Goldenberries
Peeled GoldenberriesThese delightful bite-sized fruits from South America have many names, such as Cape Gooseberries, Ground Cherries and Inca berries. Although related to tomatillos, goldenberries are sweeter and feature tangy tropical notes, often described as a mix between mango and pineapple. Goldenberries grow on shrubs and are encased in a papery husk—Melissa’s offers goldenberries with the husk on or peeled off.
To use, rinse goldenberries under cool water. The berries might be slightly sticky from a natural, edible oil the fruit excretes to protect its skin. Serve berries whole or sliced in breakfast bowls, desserts or salads. Goldenberries’ pretty orange hue looks beautiful when paired with other berries like strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries.
Melissa’s Goldenberries are hand selected for excellent quality. Store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
Pepino Melons
Pepino MelonsPepinos are often enjoyed in fruit or spinach salads or simply cut in half and served individually, topped with a sprinkling of fresh lemon or lime juice and chile powder.
The pepino once found only in Peru, is now also grown in Ecuador, New Zealand, California and other subtropical climates.
Pepino melon has a soft, edible golden skin with distinctive purple and greenish-yellow striping. The flesh of the pepino is valued for its light, pleasant scent of vanilla and notes of honey. Surprisingly, the mild flavor is a delicate combination of cantaloupe and honeydew melon combined.

Pineberries (White Strawberries)
Pineberries (White Strawberries)Native to South America, pineberries are a natural hybrid cross between two species of strawberries. They are considered the original cultivar responsible for common strawberries consumed today.
Named for a pineapple-like flavor, pineberries have a refreshing taste with hints of tropical flavor and a pretty, blushing hue. These berries are smaller than common red strawberries, with less acid and a texture like a soft pear. They are a delicious treat available for a short season!
Enjoy out-of-hand or in recipes calling for common strawberries like tarts, salads and beverages.
Store refrigerated for up to five days, and rinse in cool water before consuming. Bring to room temperature to get the most out of its unique and nuanced flavor.
Pink Muscatel Grapes
Pink Muscatel GrapesA beautiful, light rosy-pink, this grape tastes like it looks – very sweet and delicate with a pronounced floral aroma. The Pink Muscatel is a sub-variety of the Muscatel, one of the oldest grapes grown dating back to early Greek and Roman vineyards. Like the dessert wines that are made from it, this grape would be excellent in a fruit salad or on a fruit and cheese platter served with a dry white wine.
Choose grapes that are firm, with no bruises, decay or shatter. Vine stems should to be green and pliable, never dried out. Do not wash before storing. Refrigerate in crisper for up one week.

Why Pink?
Grown in Costa Rica’s ideal climate and soil, the Pinkglow® pineapple is the result of over 16 years of meticulous development by Fresh Del Monte. The result? A pineapple with a uniquely low-acid flavor profile, candy pineapple aromatics and unique pink flesh. Pinkglow® contains lycopene, a natural pigment that gives some produce (like tomatoes) its red color, which makes this pineapple pink! Lycopene has been associated with numerous health benefits, such as antioxidant properties including vitamin C.
What sustainability measures is Fresh Del Monte taking?
You’ll notice that Pinkglow® arrives without a crown. This is by design. Fresh Del Monte replants each pineapple crown in an effort to increase the volume of Pinkglow® pineapple crops and reduce waste.
Plantain Bananas
Plantain BananasFresh plantains offer endless culinary possibilities! Enjoy them sweet or savory – fried, baked, mashed, or as a delicious addition to stews and soups. These premium, hand-selected plantains bring a touch of the tropics to your kitchen with their naturally sweet, starchy flavor. Easy to prepare, they’re ready to inspire your culinary creativity!
Savory:
Tostones: The classic! Twice-fried plantains make a crispy, salty snack or side dish. Serve them with dipping sauces like garlic aioli or a spicy chimichurri.
Plantain chips (Chifles): Thinly slice the plantains, fry until crisp, and season with salt or your favorite spices.
Mofongo: A Puerto Rican specialty where plantains are mashed with garlic, olive oil, and often crispy pork bits (chicharrones). Deliciously filling comfort food.
Plantain Patties: Grate plantains, mix with seasoning, and pan-fry into savory fritters.
Sweet:
Fried sweet plantains (Maduros): Let the plantains ripen until very dark. Fry in butter and a sprinkle of sugar or cinnamon until caramelized and tender.
Plantain Pancakes: Mash ripe plantains and use like a banana in pancake batter. Extra flavorful!
Plantain Bread: Similar to banana bread, use ripe plantain for a moist, sweet loaf.
Plantain Smoothie: Blend ripe or frozen plantains with milk, yogurt, a touch of sweetness, and spices for a tropical-tasting breakfast.
How to choose?
It depends on the ripeness level of your plantains!
Green: Better for savory dishes where you want starchiness
Yellow with black spots: Perfectly versatile for both savory or sweet
Very dark/black: Ideal for sweet dishes since they will be the most sugary
How to store?
Green Plantains (unripe):
Room temperature: Store on the counter away from direct sunlight. They’ll ripen in about a week.
Speed up ripening: If you need them to ripen faster, place them in a paper bag with a ripe banana or apple.
Yellow Plantains (ripening):
Room temperature: Keep at room temperature and use within a few days as they continue to ripen.
Ripe Plantains (yellow with black spots or very dark):
Room temperature: Best used immediately for maximum sweetness.
Refrigerator: Refrigerate for 2-3 days more to slow down further ripening.
Freezer: For longer storage, peel and slice ripe plantains and freeze in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months.
Important Notes:
Avoid storing plantains in areas with high humidity.
Do not store ripe plantains in the refrigerator for too long, or they may develop a mushy texture.
